At the Centre for Land Conservation, our goal is to significantly accelerate the pace of local and regional land conservation across Canada.
The Centre for Land Conservation (CLC) was established in 2019 as an independent Canadian policy and program leadership institute to support and grow better, faster, and sustainable private land conservation in Canada. CLC works in partnership with community-based land conservation organizations to develop initiatives that will grow the business of conservation in Canada.
We develop entrepreneurial leaders, strengthen local and regional land conservation organizations, design and advocate for constructive policy initiatives, and recognize and engage caring landowners and partners.
As a registered charity operating nationally, the CLC is building the foundation for achieving more, better, and lasting conservation outcomes, and for delivering collaborative conservation grounded in active reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
Our work is focused in three areas, each contributing to a whole-landscape, inclusive approach to land conservation. The CLC approaches everything with a desire to work collaboratively with partners across sectors and disciplines and a commitment to work towards Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
We work with local and regional partners to design and build collaborative multi-year programs, fundraising campaigns, and professional conservation practices that will reduce duplication, strengthen outcomes, work towards reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, and accelerate enduring conservation in local communities.

The Conservation Excellence Certification™ program and the Canadian Land Trust Standards and Practices (CLTSP) support individual organizations in their quest for excellence. The Centre for Land Conservation serves as the custodian of the CLTSP.

Indigenous Peoples have cared for and stewarded lands, waters, and wildlife since time immemorial. The Centre for Land Conservation recognizes that Indigenous histories, experiences, and Traditional Knowledge are integral to successful conservation and restoration. The Centre also recognizes our responsibility to learn our shared stories and reflect on the colonial history of conservation.
We’re always open to work with different partners from non-profits, academic, government, and private institutions. If you’re a part of the land conservation community and would like to explore ways to work together, contact us.
